Mechanical Engineering Technologist

Penn State University is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Technologist to join their Mechanical and Electrical Design Department at the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL). This role involves collaborating with R&D Engineers to provide mechanical design support, creating 3D solid models, and maintaining design documentation compliance.

Responsibilities

Assist research engineering programs needing mechanical design support through collaboration with R&D Engineers and Engineering Support Specialists
Participate in meetings and design reviews
Collaborate to address design, material, and component needs; assist in the resolution of issues
Use accepted standards, methods, and techniques to create intermediate 3D solid models for fabricated parts, assemblies, and commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) parts
Create 2D detail drawings for intermediate fabrication parts/assemblies using accepted standards, methods and techniques; may also create schematic/bills of material (BOM) documents
Perform Service Center tasks related to documentation control, copying, archiving (.stp and .x_t), and database entry
Utilize ARL’s Project Lifecycle Management (PLM) software (Teamcenter) to properly archive and perform configuration management of all design documentation
Maintain all required compliance training related to business systems, safety, and security
Build on your knowledge of design software features, techniques, standards, and specifications (particularly ASME Y 14.5)
Provide work status updates to senior personnel and engineering staff

Required

Familiarity with mechanical systems and components
Layout and design using CAD software for component creation
Ability to create 2D detail drawings for fabrication parts and assemblies
Ability to create 3D parametric solid models which are fully constrained
Bachelor's Degree 3+ years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience accepted (if filled as Engineering Technologist - Advanced Professional)
Bachelor's Degree 1+ years of relevant experience (if filled as Engineering Technologist - Intermediate Professional)
Ability to obtain a government security clearance
Must be a U.S. citizen to apply
Successful completion of background check(s) in accordance with University policies
Successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen

Preferred

Siemens NX CAD experience
Experience with Siemens Teamcenter PLM tool
Certification or familiarization with ASME Y14.5
Experience in Microsoft Office and Adobe products
Current eligibility for access to classified information at the Secret level or higher and may be subject to a government background investigation to upgrade clearance eligibility, if required
