Head of Data

Responsibilities
Define and execute a comprehensive data roadmap aligned with business priorities, growth initiatives, and AI/ML objectives
Build, lead, and mentor a high-performing team of data engineers and analysts. Foster a culture of trust, curiosity, collaboration, and accountability
Work closely with Product, Operations, Finance, Sales, and Executive teams to establish trusted metrics, enable self-service analytics, and improve data fluency across the organization
Champion data governance and quality initiatives. Lead cross-functional efforts to define data ownership, improve upstream data reliability, and implement best practices for documentation, validation, and compliance
Collaborate with the AI/ML team to identify, prepare, and deliver high-quality datasets to support model development, training, and deployment. This includes supporting feature engineering, cohorting, and experimentation frameworks
Advocate for a metric-driven culture. Standardize and socialize key performance indicators across departments to align on business goals and performance tracking
Evaluate and scale our modern data stack (e.g. dbt, Sigma, Snowflake, Kafka, etc.) to meet the needs of a growing business and evolving data complexity
Empower stakeholders through scalable reporting solutions, training, and support to drive widespread adoption of self-service analytics
Identify and lead initiatives to improve data workflows, reduce technical debt, and increase efficiency and reliability in the analytics pipeline
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's or Master's degree in a quantitative field (e.g., Statistics, Computer Science, Engineering, Economics) or equivalent practical experience
8+ years of experience in data, analytics, or data engineering, with 3+ years in leadership roles
Demonstrated success leading teams and delivering cross-functional data initiatives in high-growth or technology-driven environments
Strong SQL and data modeling skills, including experience with modern data transformation tools such as dbt or SQLMesh
Deep understanding of data governance, including practices around data quality, documentation, access controls, and lifecycle management
Experience working alongside AI/ML teams to deliver training datasets, enable experimentation, and support productionization
Proficiency with BI tools such as Sigma, Tableau, or Power BI; experience with Python is a plus
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with a track record of building trust and credibility across business functions
Strong project management and prioritization abilities, with comfort operating in ambiguous, fast-moving environments
Preferred
Familiarity with cloud data platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and modern data tooling
Experience contributing to data governance councils or cross-functional data initiatives
Passion for team development and building a diverse, inclusive, and psychologically safe team culture
