Director of Business Development

Sun Tribe EPC is the mid-Atlantic’s premier design and build firm, focusing on providing turnkey engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) services for solar facilities and battery energy storage systems. The Director of Business Development will be responsible for developing quality business opportunities, nurturing relationships with asset owners, and leading bid responses while collaborating with various teams to maximize efficiency and quality.

Responsibilities

Strategically builds the pipeline of opportunities, with a heavy emphasis on data driven approaches
Diligently tracks opportunities within the existing database and creates real time dashboards for the Executive Team
Generates regular hi-fidelity forecasts of future opportunities with timing and margin projections
Creates a rubric for qualifying new opportunities and exercises it with consistency
Proactively surveys the market to understand asset owner activity and project flow
Maintains a strong pulse on legislative policy, market trends, and competitor activity
Seeks out new asset owners and converts them into partners
Nurtures existing partnerships
Maintains a strong understanding and database of the market clearing prices for the services we provide
Maintains a strong and current understanding of competitor landscape
Responsible for generating and transmitting customer facing proposals, ensuring the content is accurate and best in class
Manages and constantly improves our marketing approach and company branding efforts, including online and website presence, materials and statement of qualifications, engaging 3rd party consultants as needed
Maintains a strong technical understanding of how projects are estimated and ultimately engineered / bought out / constructed
Performs first level client and project vetting to ensure quality leads are selected for potential pursuit
Attend and positively influence strategic growth initiatives for the business
Supports the VP, Preconstruction with negotiations of EPC Agreements

Required

Bachelor's Degree is required; degree in Engineering being preferred. MBA is advantageous
A minimum six years of experience in the ground mounted solar space is required, with a minimum of three years on the sell side of a solar EPC or buy side of an asset owner is required
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the instinct to make informed business decisions is required
Ultra-high competence in MS Excel is required
The ability to travel is required. Typical travel required includes day and overnight trip travel via automobile, train, or plane as needed, averaging once or twice per month
Hybrid work environment with an expectation to work from the Charlottesville office at least 5 times per month
Some evening and weekend work is required

Preferred

Demonstrated experience with projects and customers within the PJM grid RTO is preferred
Demonstrated success finding new opportunities organically
Proven success developing and closing deals
Demonstration of company core values; Community, Safety, Perpetual Improvement, Nature, Joy, and Respect
Experience negotiating complex legal agreements is advantageous
Experience in Airtable, Procore, and MS Project is advantageous
A Professional Certificate in Construction Estimating and/or PMI Project Management Certificate is advantageous
