Plan Check Engineer
The City of Corona is seeking a detail-driven and solutions-oriented Plan Check Engineer to play a vital role in shaping safe, sustainable, and thriving spaces for generations to come. Responsibilities
Plan, organize, perform detailed analysis and examination of building and construction designs, specifications and plans
Apply engineering and architectural principles and techniques to solve complex residential, commercial and industrial construction problems and objectives
Analyze structural integrity and load factors using engineering design mechanics
Analyze and evaluate complex building plans, data and reports to determine whether compliance has been achieved
Prepares correspondence to architects, engineers and contractors relating to the correction of plans and engineering detail; initiates notifications of code violations
Advises Building Inspectors on structural and other building-related problems arising in the field during construction
Prepares and conducts training programs for plan check, inspection, and counter personnel
Qualification
Required
Graduation from a four-year college or university with major course work in architecture or civil, structural, or architectural engineering
Three (3) years of increasingly responsible professional plan checking experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience
A valid Class C California driver's license and the ability to maintain insurability under the City's Vehicle Insurance Policy
Registration as a Professional Engineer with the State of California Department of Consumer Affairs - Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, and Geologists
Certification as a Building Plans Examiner by ICC is required, or ability to obtain within one year of employment date
Theories and principles of structural design, engineering mathematics and soils engineering
Approved building construction methods, materials and proper inspection methods related to residential, commercial and industrial developments
Federal, state and municipal codes and regulations governing housing and building construction, rehabilitation, alteration, use and occupancy, including the Model or California Building, Plumbing, Mechanical, Energy, Fire and Electrical Codes
Appropriate safety and fire prevention construction and building methods

Benefits
Employees are covered by the California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS).
The City offers two retirement formulas based on the employee's current CalPERS membership status.
Annual Leave During Initial Probation.
Holiday Leave hours earned during the first year of employment are available to be used for any purpose.
Eligible employees may 'buy back' a maximum of 160 hours of annual leave once each year.
The City currently offers a variety of HMO plans as well as several PPO plans through CalPERS.
The City provides a Medical Allowance to Members to be used for the purpose of purchasing mandatory health coverage offered through PEMHCA for the Member and his or her eligible dependents.
The City currently offers HMO and PPO dental insurance through Delta Dental.
The City currently offers vision insurance through Eye Med.
Short-term and long-term disability insurance is provided free to each employee.
The City provides a term life insurance policy to each employee equal to 5 ½ times the employee's annual basic earnings to a maximum, of $750,000.00.
Each employee may contribute to either a medical reimbursement account or dependent care account to pay for unreimbursed medical expenses and/or dependent care expenses with pre-tax dollars.
This is a comprehensive program designed to help employees and their family members find direction in solving personal and/or emotional problems.
To supplement retirement, employees can make voluntary salary deferrals to a Nationwide plan.
After 5 years of service $500.00 annually.
The City of Corona recognizes the value of an educated workforce and encourages employees to pursue the goal of higher education.
The City shall pay $189.58 per month to employees for Bilingual pay.
