STEM & Technology Teacher

Walker Therapeutic & Educational Programs is dedicated to providing educational services to students with special needs. They are seeking a STEM & Technology Teacher to educate students in STEM and technology from kindergarten through twelfth grade, while also training and consulting with teachers and support staff on technology and assistive technology.

Responsibilities

Work as a part of a multidisciplinary team to further the emotional, behavioral, and educational development of children
Maintain a classroom atmosphere that is conducive to learning and effectively manage the behavior of students in small and large groups
Implement treatment protocol and appropriate therapeutic strategies established in children’s treatment plans, IEPs, and individual support plans
Participate fully in the administrative functions of teaching and childcare, including attending and participating in required meetings, completing assigned report writing tasks in a timely manner, and actively communicating with families and members of the students’ multidisciplinary team
Apply Walker’s model of childcare, including Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI), which requires physical restraint when necessary, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, cooperative group games, and behavioral support
Actively participate in supervision and professional development opportunities offered at Walker
Plan and implement weekly STEM lessons in all classrooms, at Walker School Needham four days per week and Walker Beacon School (Watertown) one day per week
Plan and implement weekly Technology lessons in all classrooms, at Walker School Needham four days per week and Walker Beacon School (Watertown) one day per week
Work across programs to support students in safely accessing technology and the internet
Support in creating and maintaining inventory system for mobile technology (ie. iPads, Chromebooks etc.) on the residential units
Plan STEM/Technology club/elective as needed on both campuses
Complete Assistive Technology evaluations as needed
Align units, lessons, and objectives with school and state standards
Prepare sequential units of study as well as daily lessons and materials necessary for instruction, setting clear and reasonable standards and expectations for students
Provide consultation to teachers on use of the internet and instructional technology
Follow and implement all Walker policies and procedures
All other duties, as assigned

Required

Bachelor's degree in related field
Work towards licensure in Special Education, moderate disabilities
Background in educational technology
Ability to be flexible and work collaboratively
Ability to respond to emergency situations quickly and safely
Ability to work in a stressful and fast paced environment
Must understand child development and the impact of emotional, behavioral, and learning disabilities
Must understand issues of confidentiality
Must be receptive to supervision and professional development
Ability to work and stand for extended period of time
Job may require bending, stooping, stretching, and lifting
Job requires the ability to perform therapeutic physical intervention as needed

Preferred

MA teaching license in education or related field
Licensure in Special Education, Moderate Disabilities
Experience working with children with complex social, emotional, and behavioral challenges
