Health, Wellness, and Behavior Dean
Manhattan Charter Schools are two high-performing charter schools in New York City committed to providing students with essential tools for success. The Health, Wellness, and Behavior Dean plays a vital role in fostering a safe and positive school community by mentoring students and leading wellness and behavior supports while teaching health and physical education.
Education Management
Responsibilities
Serve as a visible and approachable presence in classrooms, hallways, and common spaces to proactively support a positive school culture
Use coaching and mentoring strategies to guide students in self-regulation, decision-making, and conflict resolution
Lead restorative practices to resolve conflicts, repair relationships, and build community
Collaborate with teachers to create and implement classroom-based wellness and behavior supports
Track, analyze, and respond to student behavior data to ensure timely interventions and recognition of positive behavior
Partner with families to strengthen student growth in behavior, wellness, and school engagement
Design and teach standards-aligned PE and Health lessons that promote physical fitness, healthy living, teamwork, and resilience
Integrate social-emotional learning, wellness, and positive behavior principles into instruction
Ensure inclusive, safe, and engaging physical activities for all students
Assess student progress in health and wellness and share updates with students and families
Support schoolwide health and wellness initiatives in collaboration with staff
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Education, Physical Education, Health, Counseling, or related field
Strong understanding of student behavior systems, wellness supports, and restorative practices
Background in physical education, health, or wellness instruction
Ability to build trusting relationships with students, families, and staff
Strong communication, conflict resolution, and mentoring skills
Commitment to equity, inclusion, and holistic student development
Prior experience in a dean, student support, coaching, or teaching role strongly encouraged
Preferred
Master's degree in Education, Physical Education, Health, Counseling, or related field
Teaching certification in Physical Education and/or Health
Experience working with diverse student populations
