Responsibilities

Build and lead Verkada’s employment legal function

Advise leadership and the People Team on a wide range of employment law issues, such as employee relations, performance management, leaves, accommodations, wage and hour, pay equity, internal investigations, compensation and benefits, terminations, and recruiting)

Partner with Verkada’s People Team to build to scalable employment practices and policies at a fast but thoughtful pace

Develop, draft, update, and implement employment and other workforce-related policies

Lead resolution of employment related disputes and litigation (including managing outside counsel cost-effectively)

Lead or support employment-related investigations

Develop and conduct company-wide employment training programs and compliance initiatives

Collaborate with cross-functional teams on complex projects with employment law implications across multiple jurisdictions

Advise company leadership and stakeholders on appropriate employment classifications and drive efforts to comply with applicable laws and regulations

Monitor the legal landscape of global employment laws and regulations and advise company leadership accordingly

Qualification

Required

J.D. degree from an ABA-approved law school

10+ years of relevant legal experience

Deep expertise in U.S. employment law, especially California and federal

Broad experience leading, conducting, and directing employment litigation, adversarial proceedings, and as employment-related internal investigations

Member of a U.S. state bar in good standing

Preferred

At least 2 years of in-house counsel experience at a technology company

Familiarity with employment law outside the U.S., primarily in the United Kingdom, Europe, and the Asia-Pacific region

California state bar membership preferred
