Senior Underwriter – Wholesale & MGA Insurance
WestPac is a family-centric, locally owned regional wholesale and Managing General Agent (MGA) insurance firm. They are seeking a client-focused Senior Underwriter responsible for underwriting new and renewal business functions, collaborating with Broker Teams, and mentoring new Associate Underwriters.

Responsibilities
Maintain a thorough understanding of WestPac’s products and how they fit into the commercial insurance marketplace
Collaborate with Broker Teams on the placement of new and renewal business for both binding and brokerage
Carefully review and underwrite new and renewal business for optimal placement with binding carrier partners
A key part of this role involves supporting the training and onboarding of new Associate Underwriters. The Senior Underwriter will provide day-to-day mentoring, share knowledge and best practices, and serve as a reliable resource for questions and guidance. Additionally, this person will audit the work of new hires to ensure accuracy and consistency
Play a key role in fostering collaboration within the underwriting team and across departments. This includes leading regular underwriting meetings, setting the agenda, and providing relevant context to guide team discussions and decision-making. The individual will also work cross-functionally on strategic projects as needed, contributing underwriting expertise, helping to identify process improvements, and ensuring alignment with WestPac’s goals and standards. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a collaborative environment and is comfortable taking initiative to drive projects forward
Assist Broker Teams in marketing submissions to brokerage carrier partners and negotiate terms for quotes
Secure new business quotes/terms from markets and assist retail agents in the placement of new business
Underwrite and quote premium and exposure change endorsements
Provide support to Brokers, Account Managers, and Customer Service Representatives as needed
Efficiently perform tasks in our agency management system, ensuring accuracy and excellence
Maintain positive relationships with agency and carrier contacts to enhance collaboration
Undertake other functions as assigned by management to support overall business objectives
Qualification
Required
High School Diploma or GED equivalent; college undergraduate degree preferred
Minimum of 5 years underwriting insurance
Strong verbal and written communication skills to maintain professionalism in all interactions
Resourceful, with critical thinking abilities and meticulous attention to detail
Highly organized, with the capability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
Willingness to travel and engage in outbound marketing endeavors, including after business hours
Flexible to changes in processes and procedures
Values a collaborative environment and appreciates constructive feedback
Active Property and Casualty (P&C) license
