Engineer VI - Facilities Development Branch

Responsibilities
Supervises the professional and nonprofessional personnel of a major engineering activity
Develops procedures and standards for carrying out specialty in the organization and represents the organization with authority on technical engineering matters within the area of specialization
May direct a large engineering section or assist in directing a large engineering division or district office as a technical specialist in planning, development, design and/or research
May lead the efforts of a team engaged in carrying out difficult or critical project assignments with emphasis in the area of specialization
Serves as a staff specialist responsible for overall control and coordination of a number of major and complex engineering projects or programs
Performs other duties as required
Qualification
Required
Graduation from a school of engineering in an accredited college or university
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a degree in physics, mathematics or chemistry may be accepted as qualifying, provided the applicant has had at least 15 credits in engineering sciences
Administrative, professional or technical experience involving the application and knowledge of the fundamental physical and mathematical sciences underlying professional engineering
A combination of college training in engineering and experience mentioned above substantively equivalent to completion of a college training leading to a Bachelor's degree in engineering
Except for the substitutions provided for in this specification, applicants must have had progressively responsible experience of the kind and quality described below and in the amounts shown in the following table: Engineer VI - 4 years of Engineering Experience, 1 year of Supervisory or Staff Advisory Experience, 0 years of Administrative Experience, 5 years of Total Experience
For the Engineer VI level, at least one year of the required engineering experience must have been experience comparable to the next lower level
Professional engineering experience which included the planning, organizing, staffing, policy formulation and implementation of same and directing a program providing staff services and/or assistance
Progressively responsible professional engineering which required the knowledge and application of the basic physical and mathematical sciences and the engineering sciences to the solution of theoretical or practical engineering problems
For the Engineer IV and higher levels, applicants must possess a Hawaii State Certificate of Registration as a professional engineer
Applicant must have a current, valid driver's license

Retirement Plan: The State contributes to a retirement plan for eligible employees.
Tax Shelter Annuity (TSA): If eligible, Department employees are able to participate in a tax shelter annuity program.
Deferred Compensation: The State offers employees a tax deferred (sheltered) retirement investment program.
Temporary Disability Insurance: Qualified employees may be eligible to receive benefits for a disability caused by a non-work related injury or illness under this program.
Social Security: As an employer, the State also contributes to an employee's social security account.
Workers' Compensation: If an employee is injured while on the job, benefits covering medical expenses and partial wage support may be available through workers' compensation.
Union & Collective Bargaining: Employees have the right to join the union for collective bargaining with the State and employee representation.
