Vice President Accounting & Corporate Controller

Responsibilities

Lead the accounting department with authority and expertise, managing all accounting activities including the meticulous oversight of the general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and comprehensive financial reporting
Prepare and present accurate, detailed, and timely financial reports, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements
Regularly communicate with external stakeholders to ensure transparency and accountability in all financial dealings
Ensure comprehensive compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and established accounting principles (such as GAAP/IFRS), demonstrating a keen understanding of the complex regulatory environment in which healthcare operates
Develop and maintain robust internal control processes designed to safeguard the organization’s assets, ensuring the integrity and accuracy of all financial data
Oversee cash flow forecasting and liquidity management
Manage relationships with financial institutions and ensure compliance with financial covenants
Ensure timely and accurate tax filings and compliance with federal, state, and local tax laws
Monitor tax regulations and provide planning guidance to mitigate risk and support organizational initiatives
Coordinate and manage internal and external audits and reviews meticulously, ensuring that the audit process is completed in a timely manner, without compromising the integrity of financial reporting
Provide mentorship, guidance, and leadership to the accounting team, fostering a positive culture that emphasizes professional development, team collaboration, and continuous improvement in accounting practices
Coordinate and facilitate ongoing training and development programs for the accounting staff and enhancing their skills

Required

Education: Bachelor's in Accounting or Finance
Experience: 10+ years in progressive financial leadership roles
CPA required
Deep understanding of healthcare financial regulations
Familiarity with nonprofit accounting principles, IRS Form 990, and financial standards applicable to tax-exempt health systems
Knowledge of pediatric health system funding sources such as philanthropy, grants, and governmental subsidies
Proficiency in capital finance, bond markets, and debt structuring for healthcare organizations
Knowledge of ERP systems (e.g., Oracle), Kronos and QuickBooks
Proficient communication, including presenting complex financial data to non-financial audiences
Data-driven decision-making and performance analysis, using KPIs and dashboards to monitor trends and operational efficiency
Change leadership and influence skills to drive financial transformation across multidisciplinary teams
Grant budgeting and post-award financial compliance (especially relevant in children's hospitals receiving research or public health funding)
Ability to manage ambiguity and complexity in a dynamic healthcare environment
Lead cross-functional teams and foster a culture of innovation, stewardship, and accountability
Prioritize competing demands and pivot strategies in response to market shifts or funding changes
Build trust and collaboration with clinical and operational leaders to support mission-driven decision-making
Translate financial forecasts and trends into actionable operational strategies
Sustain high performance under pressure, particularly in a health system setting where decisions may have life-impacting consequences

Preferred

Education: Master's in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance or Healthcare Administration preferred
Experience: 5 years in a healthcare environment, Children's hospital or academic medical center experience strongly preferred
