Itinerant Orientation and Mobility Specialist (PK-12), CY-FAIR HIGH SCHOOL
Cypress-Fairbanks ISD is seeking an Itinerant Orientation and Mobility Specialist to work with visually impaired students. The role involves teaching students to develop travel skills, evaluating their needs, and collaborating with a multi-disciplinary team to ensure their safety and progress.

Responsibilities
Teach visually impaired students to develop the skills and knowledge required to enable them to travel safely and independently
Transport students to diverse locations to teach practical travel skills in realistic environments
Evaluate visually impaired students for orientation and mobility needs and determines eligibility for services
Participate in the admission, review, and dismissal (ARD) committee to assist in interpretation of assessment data, appropriate placement, and goal setting for students with visual impairments according to district procedures
Plan and provide appropriate individual and group instruction to students consistent with orientation and mobility goals contained in individual education plans (IEP)
Tracks student progress and use evaluative finding to examine program effectiveness and make recommendations for change when appropriate
Modifies and collects materials to teach and explain specific concepts and mobility skills to the visually impaired student
Consults with the multi-disciplinary team to ensure the safety of the visually impaired student and reinforce appropriate orientation and mobility skills throughout the day
Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required
Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and the local board
Regular and reliable attendance is an essential job function
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree or higher from a recognized, accredited college or university
Valid certification as an Orientation & Mobility Specialist as granted by the Academy for Certification of Vision Rehabilitation and Education Professionals (ACVREP)
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Knowledge of special needs of students with vision impairments
Knowledge of Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee process and Individual Education Plan (IEP) goal setting process and implementation
Knowledge of curriculum design and implementation
Must be willing to obtain and maintain a current automated external defibrillator (AED) and CPR certificate
Preferred
Valid Texas certification as a Vision Teacher
