Pathways Intern: Analytical Chemistry Researcher
The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point is seeking a Pathways Intern for an Analytical Chemistry Research position. The intern will work under Dr. Riha's supervision, gaining hands-on experience in analytical and materials chemistry techniques while supporting research projects through experimentation and data analysis.

Responsibilities
Regularly meet with mentor to plan, conceptualize, and coordinate research efforts
Maintain a well-documented and up-to-date virtual laboratory notebook
Become familiar with the scientific literature associated with the project
Collect, analyze, and communicate results with Dr. Riha and other group members
Analyze materials and mixtures with a suite of analytical instrumentation such as UV-vis-NIR, potentiostat, X-ray diffractometer, Raman Microscope, IR, and scanning differential thermogravimetric analyzer
Perform materials synthesis using air-free techniques
Fabricate thin films via wet-chemical deposition methods
Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment
Collaborate with other group members
Be willing to be a project lead and help train in new group members
Create and maintain consistent work schedule by the first week of each semester
Complete and submit all personnel information as required by deadline, including timecards and any changes to schedule
Respond to email correspondence within 24 hours
Maintain professionalism within workspaces
Participate in and presents at departmental initiatives, events, and activities as requested
Qualification
Required
Currently enrolled in at least twelve undergraduate credits per semester
In good academic standing with the University
Maintain a 3.0 in-major GPA (Freshman/Sophomore status requires 3.0 cumulative GPA)
Ability to work approximately 5-10 hours per week during the semester
Comfortable working in a laboratory environment and experience using basic chemistry lab instrumentation
Must be comfortable working with hazardous materials and must comply with all health and safety regulations
Completed CHEM248 with a grade of B or higher
Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Excel, Word and PowerPoint)
Ability to work individually as well as in a team environment
Excellent interpersonal skills
Ability to work efficiently under firm deadlines
Excellent creativity, attention to detail, problem-solving, and be highly organized and process driven
