Intern - Water Rights Engineering (Summer)
The State of South Dakota is seeking a Water Rights Engineering Intern for the summer session. This role involves assisting the Water Rights Program with fieldwork related to water levels and dam inspections, requiring extensive travel and overnight stays.

Responsibilities
Assist the Water Rights Program in surveying observation well top of casing elevations
Survey outlet elevations of existing dams
Survey lake water levels
Measure water levels in observation wells
Assist engineering staff conduct dam inspections
Write dam inspection reports
Other duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
APPLICANT MUST BE A CURRENT PART-TIME OR FULL-TIME STUDENT (MINIMUM OF 6 CREDIT HOURS) IN UPCOMING SEMESTER OR IN THE IMMEDIATELY PRECEDING SEMESTER
The applicant should be familiar with engineering design considerations
The ability to use engineer criteria and mathematics to solve problems
The ability to effectively communicate
The ability to use Microsoft products (Word and Excel) and ArcGIS
Applicant must be enrolled as a part-time/full-time student at a college, university, or technical institute at the time they apply
By the start of the internship, the student should have completed one year (nine months) of their chosen program
Preferred
Preference will be given to students with a background in engineering and/or surveying coursework (e.g. agricultural engineering, geological engineering, civil engineering, environmental engineering, mechanical engineering, etc.)
Preference may be given to applicants with a standing of junior/senior
Preference may be given to South Dakota residents
Preference may be given to students of South Dakota institutions
