San Mateo County Employees' Retirement Association (SamCERA) seeks a highly organized and detail-oriented individual for the position of Retirement Analyst. The role involves performing technical and analytical fiscal duties to support the county's retirement system, ensuring compliance, and assisting members with their benefits.

Responsibilities

Serve as fiduciary in assuring the compliance and monitoring of activities, programs, and records related to the retirement fund and/or the membership benefits program
Assist in the implementation of SamCERA's benefits plans and programs
Perform a variety of complex and technical tasks, such as date entry and data auditing, computing distribution of retirement benefits, disability and death benefits, and account withdrawals
Analyze data, programs, and services to make recommendations for improvement
Develop, implement, and maintain fiscal- and benefits-related systems, files, and records
Perform ongoing technical and analytical duties to process, monitor, and solve problems in areas, such as retirement benefits and disability benefits
Coordinate with internal County department and external jurisdictions or individuals to obtain information and resolve issues
Assist with special projects, data collection/statistical analysis reports, and the Retirement Board, County departments and others
Provide information to and assist employees on retirement issues
Perform related duties as assigned

Required

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying
A typical way to qualify is one year of experience performing difficult, technical, and analytical fiscal and/or benefits duties
Terminology, concepts and practices related to the processing of service and the maintenance of retirement system records
Office administrative principles and practices, including filing and the operation of standard office equipment
Financial record keeping principles and practices
Basic business data processing principles and the use of personal computing equipment
Business arithmetic including percentages and decimals
Oral and written business English
The County Employees' Retirement Law of 1937
Interpret, explain and apply laws, regulations, standards policies and procedures
Develop and maintain accurate files and records and prepare reports
Analyze, research and summarize information and materials
Organize, coordinate and prioritize work activities, meet deadlines and follow up on activities
Use initiative and sound independent judgment within established guidelines
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of the work
Operate standard office equipment, including a personal or on-line computer
Prepare clear, complete and concise reports, correspondence and other materials
Communicate effectively both oral and in writing

Preferred

Customer service experience in retirement benefits administration, with the ability to communicate complex information clearly and effectively to members
Working knowledge of the County Employees' Retirement Law of 1937
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and shifting priorities while maintaining accuracy and timeliness
Experience serving in a fiduciary capacity, assuring compliance and monitoring activities, programs, and records related to retirement funds and membership benefits programs
Analytical skills to evaluate data, programs, and services and make recommendations for improvements
Strong collaboration skills to coordinate with internal County departments, external jurisdictions, and individuals to obtain information and resolve issues
