Future Opportunities Environmental Health & Safety Intern

The Hershey Company is seeking an Environmental Health & Safety Intern to support the implementation and continuous improvement of safety and environmental programs within a food manufacturing facility. This internship provides hands-on experience in identifying risks, promoting a safety-first culture, and ensuring compliance with essential regulatory standards.

Responsibilities

Conduct routine inspections of production areas to identify physical, chemical, and biological hazards specific to food manufacturing
Support the implementation of corrective actions to mitigate risks and enhance worker safety and product integrity
Assist in evaluating sanitation practices, allergen controls, and hygiene protocols from an EHS perspective
Help interpret and apply OSHA and EPA regulations within the context of food production
Participate in the development and delivery of safety training programs tailored to food manufacturing operations
Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Quality, Maintenance, Operations) to support safe process changes, equipment installations, and facility upgrades
Maintain and update EHS documentation, including safety data sheets (SDS), incident reports, and environmental permits
Assist in conducting internal audits and preparing for external inspections related to safety and environmental compliance
Promote a culture of safety and environmental stewardship across all shifts and departments

Required

Currently pursuing a degree in Environmental Engineering, Safety Engineering, Occupational Safety, Food Science, or a related field
Strong attention to detail and ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced team environment
Proficient in Microsoft Office and data analysis tools
Familiarity with safety programs such as Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), Hazard Communication (HazCom), and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP)

Preferred

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Understanding of food safety regulations (e.g., FDA, USDA) and environmental compliance standards
