Extension Program Assistant, 4-H

NC State Extension Forestry is dedicated to providing research-based knowledge to improve the lives of North Carolinians. The Extension Program Assistant for the 4-H program will facilitate and create educational programs, recruit and train volunteers, and assist with various 4-H activities in Henderson County.

Higher Education

Responsibilities

Support the 4-H Agent in creating a well-rounded 4-H program in Henderson County
Facilitate and create 4-H Special Interest Programs and volunteer recruitment
Assist with 4-H Club administration/activities and school enrichment programs
Assist in marketing 4-H in the county through newsletters, newspaper articles, Facebook, websites, and other media
Maintain accurate records of hours worked and document accomplishments in the Extension Reporting System
Recruit and train volunteers to manage programs effectively
Work with advisory committees to identify needs for the program and the community
Travel within the county and occasionally for district and state events

Required

High-school diploma or equivalent
Ability to plan, organize, and work with adult volunteer leaders
Ability to relate to and understand youth
Interest in and understanding of the needs, problems, and attitudes of youth and adults
Valid Driver's License and reliable transportation
Ability to express comments and opinions clearly and concisely in oral and/or written form
Ability to communicate and develop effective working relationships with youth and adults, the general community, and staff
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally and up to 30 pounds frequently
Ability to stand and sit for sustained periods, and occasionally kneel, stoop, and reach
Ability to perceive the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction
Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication and make discriminations in sound
Appropriate visual acuity with or without correction
Dexterity to perform the normal duties of the job

Preferred

Advanced training in related fields
Experience working with persons of broad backgrounds and/or with the development, training, and recruitment of volunteers
Ability to work creatively with persons of various backgrounds
