Geotechnical Engineering Intern - Kansas City

Burns & McDonnell is a leading engineering firm, and they are seeking a Geotechnical Engineering Intern to support their Geotechnical Department. The intern will assist with geotechnical design, compile project-related data, and help plan subsurface explorations while gaining hands-on experience in the field.

Responsibilities

Assist with tasks that may include filing, scanning, data entry, documentation, Power Point presentation
Assist with responses to general questions
Participate in continuous improvement efforts by collecting and analyzing data
Present solutions to concerns
Research solutions to project concerns; analyze and recommend solutions to problems
Assist with ad hoc projects as assigned by managers
Performs other duties as assigned
Complies with all policies and standards

Required

Pursuit of Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Geotechnical Engineering related degree from an accredited program
Currently enrolled, and in good standing, in a post-secondary education and/or technical certificate program in a field related to the work done in the department
Basic knowledge in standard geotechnical engineering techniques, principles and procedures
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrated critical thinking skills
Proficient computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite)
Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization and problem solving skills
Demonstrated leadership skills
Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without requiring future sponsorship for employment visa status

Preferred

Pursuit of Master's degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering from an accredited program
Minimum of a 3.0 GPA strongly preferred
Prior internship and/or related consulting experience preferred
Involvement on campus or in the community
Basic computer skills include geological analysis programs (e.g., Ensoft, FAD) and AutoCAD
