Junior Linux Systems Engineer

Apt is seeking a motivated Junior Linux Systems Engineer to join their team and support the administration, monitoring, and optimization of Linux-based systems and SQL databases. This role offers hands-on experience and the opportunity to collaborate closely with senior engineers and DBAs, while building the skills needed for advancement in systems or database engineering.

Responsibilities

Assist with day-to-day administration of Linux servers, including installation, configuration, and patching
Monitor system and database performance, availability, and security, escalating issues as needed
Support troubleshooting efforts for Linux OS, database, hardware, and network-related problems
Perform basic SQL database administration tasks such as user management, backups, and query monitoring
Collaborate with senior engineers and database administrators on upgrades, automation projects, and infrastructure improvements
Maintain documentation for Linux and database processes, configurations, and troubleshooting steps
Provide basic user support for Linux- and SQL-related requests

Required

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field is required
1–2 years of experience in a Linux systems or IT support role (or equivalent coursework/lab experience)
Familiarity with Linux command line, shell scripting, and basic system administration tasks
Basic SQL knowledge (queries, user permissions, schema concepts)
Understanding of database backup/recovery and monitoring fundamentals
General networking knowledge (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, firewalls)
Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and eagerness to learn
Excellent communication and teamwork abilities

Preferred

Professional certifications such as Linux+ (CompTIA), RHCSA/RHCE (Red Hat), or AWS Certified SysOps Administrator
SQL certifications (Microsoft, Oracle, or similar)
Experience with automation tools (Ansible, Puppet, Chef, etc.)
Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
Familiarity with database performance tuning and query optimization
Experience with version control (Git)
