Responsibilities
Lead, mentor, and support the growth of mechanical engineering staff, ensuring continuous development of both technical and soft skills
Cultivate a positive team culture that promotes engagement, morale, and retention
Identify training opportunities and provide targeted coaching
Conduct regular check-ins and performance reviews in alignment with firm standards
Make strategic decisions regarding team capacity, project staffing, and resource alignment
Manage multiple projects concurrently, ensuring deadlines are met while delivering quality HVAC and mechanical system designs
Collaborate with project managers and other discipline leads to ensure smooth project execution
Oversee quality control processes across all mechanical projects
Review and approve project deliverables for technical accuracy, code compliance, and adherence to firm standards
Serve as a technical authority in HVAC system design, including load calculations, ventilation analysis, equipment selection, and existing system assessments
Lead hiring efforts for the mechanical discipline, including candidate screening, interviewing, and selection
Oversee onboarding to ensure seamless integration of new hires
Develop individualized growth plans for new team members
Maintain open communication with firm leadership, project teams, and other department leaders
Provide regular updates to the Vice President on team performance, project health, and staffing needs
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
Professional Engineer (PE) license required (WI required, IL preferred)
8+ years of progressive experience in mechanical/HVAC building systems design within an A/E or consulting environment
Proven leadership and team management experience
Strong knowledge of HVAC and building mechanical systems design, codes, and industry standards
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Revit
Excellent communication, mentoring, and organizational skills
Preferred
Experience with healthcare, educational, and commercial projects preferred
