IT Infrastructure Assistant– Work Study Intern

The International Computer Science Institute (ICSI) is a non-profit research institute located in Berkeley, California, focused on solving complex problems in computer science and data science. They are seeking a student assistant to support IT systems automation and general IT systems, gaining hands-on experience in IT, DevOps, and systems engineering while contributing to research efforts.

Responsibilities

Writing Terraform for automated systems deployment
Configuring GitHub Actions in an infrastructure-as-code workflow
Writing Shell or Python scripts to monitor and/or automatically remediate issues with GPU-intensive research computing
Maintain network infrastructure by managing switches, Wireless Access Points, firewalls, and VPN solutions across vendor platforms including Cisco Meraki, Juniper, and MikroTik
Contributing to IAM tooling used for account and permissions management and monitoring

Required

Practical knowledge of Python and/or Bash scripting
Professional, solutions-oriented attitude
Excellent written and verbal communications skills
Current student eligible for federal or institutional work study
Strong organizational and time management skills with attention to detail
Reliable, with strong interpersonal and customer service skills
Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
Proficiency with Google Workspace, GitHub, and cloud services (AWS, GCP) a plus

Preferred

Experience with AWS and/or GCP in a DevOps Environment
Experience with Kubernetes and/or Docker
Experience with Linux systems and CLI tools
Familiarity with PyTorch or other research computing tools
Understanding of CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Terraform, GitHub Actions)
Exposure to Mobile Device Management platforms
