Responsibilities

Administers standard ophthalmic tests per physician's order and according to established procedures and standards
Performs diagnostic tests including vision field tests
Performs retinoscopy
Provides the evaluation of patients with eye muscle problems utilizing prisms
Contact lens fitting and dispensing
Explains procedures to patient and/or family and directs patient during treatment and therapy
Instructs patient and/or family in appropriate home care treatment
Prepares reports and completes charting as required and confers regularly with the physician relative to patient's progress
Interpersonal and communication skills necessary to work collaboratively with coworkers, physicians, children, and their families
The ability to represent the organization and serve consumers in a professional manner and promote a positive image of the organization and its services

Required

Knowledge of basic eye anatomy and physiology as well as Ophthalmic tests and procedures as would be acquired through completion of a two-year ophthalmic technician program
Equivalent Ophthalmic experience accepted
Current CPR certification - Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers through American Heart or American Red Cross is required
