Responsibilities

Sets up sterile field, gathers supplies for surgical cases, based on knowledge of instruments and equipment to be used

Passes instruments to surgeons during surgery

Performs count procedures per policy during surgical cases

Serves as a resource and preceptor to less experienced Surgical Technologists

Takes call for routine and high acuity cases after orientation period

Learns, performs and completes assignments/responsibilities assigned during the transitional duty period

Required

Registered by the State Board of Medicine and Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) or Tech in Surgery-Certified (TS-C) or Certified Operating Room or Surgical Technician (CORST) certification

Registration by the Virginia State Board of Medicine, Current AHA, BLS, HCP Certification Current CST; TS-C or CORST required

Minimum of 6 months experience as a Surgical Technologist or related scrub tech position

High School Diploma or equivalent Graduate of a Surgical Technology Program or a military training program or Licensed Practical Nursing Program

Preferred

2 years experience as a surgical technologist or related scrub technician position

Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology Program
