The role of Scrub Tech in Labor & Delivery involves assisting surgeons during operative and invasive procedures, ensuring the operating suite is prepared, and maintaining the safety and functionality of surgical instruments and equipment.

Responsibilities

Prepares room in a timely manner with all anticipated instruments, sutures, supplies and equipment for each individual surgical procedure, or all anticipated endoscopes, instruments, supplies and equipment of each individual GI Lab procedure

Accurately completes operating room counts (instruments, sponges, sharps); follows proper procedure in the event of incorrect count; reports all discrepancies to Circulating RN and surgeon and/or corrects immediately

Maintains safe environment for patient, co-workers and self, per hospital policies and procedures

Checks all equipment/instruments needed, prior to each procedure to ensure proper functioning. Equipment malfunctions or needed repairs are reported to the Charge Nurse and/or Materials coordinator
