Responsibilities

Assist the circulating nurse with patient positioning, confirmation/preparation of operative site, care of operative specimens and room turnover

Establish and maintain an organized sterile field

Use proper sterilization methods for instruments prior to procedures

Understand asepsis and the standards and techniques to addressing asepsis and takes corrective action when any unsafe practice, conditions or breaks occur

Prepare the operating room with sterile supplies, instruments, and sutures

Follow policies for scrubbing, gowning, gloving, draping and counting with the circulating nurse

Perform the role of first scrub on basic surgical cases

Anticipate the needs and assists the surgeon with retracting tissue, holding instrumentation and cutting suture
