Materials / Metallurgical Engineer

Bechtel Plant Machinery, Inc. (BPMI) is a prime contractor for the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program, specializing in the design and delivery of major propulsion plant components for the U.S. Navy. The Materials/Metallurgical Engineer will perform technical functions to support company operations, including materials evaluations, engineering decisions, and quality control assessments.

Responsibilities

Delegate materials engineering responsibility that supports fleet, field, technology, analysis, manufacturing, facilities, testing, and operations activities
Assist in the study, design, application, analyses, test, or the preparation of specifications and processes for systems, materials, equipment, or components relating to a limited aspect of the group's function
Support other engineers who are performing related work
Prepare project plans to accomplish assigned work. Identify and complete performance measures, including post job assessments. Meet project and scheduler requirements
Communicate status on a periodic basis to immediate management
Perform evaluations which may include analysis of material conditions, failure analysis, and troubleshooting
Develop an understanding of component and system interrelationships and expand understanding of pertinent materials manufacturing processes
Assist in the preparation of technical manuals, reports, or procedures in accordance with program quality standards
Assist in design, development, execution, and evaluation of materials engineering research, design projects, and/or process development programs
Complete training and work assignments that are planned to provide experience and familiarization with the engineering methods and practices of the Company
Participate in production/quality surveillance and production reviews at supplier plants and report results
Prepare letters to the Government providing technical information, recommending approval of technical actions or obtaining approval of funding
Evaluate vendor prepared designs and supporting documents; participate in technical discussions with equipment departments and suppliers

Required

B.S. in Materials Science, Metallurgical, or Welding Engineering from an accredited college or university or B.S. degree in another engineering discipline with a M.S. in Materials or Metallurgical Engineer
Minimum GPA of 3.0 for newer college graduates
Requires a security clearance; however, all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status
The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy security clearance is required

Preferred

Application of materials and processes in the design and fabrication of equipment
Preparation and interpretation of specifications and standards for metallic and nonmetallic materials and processes, and the metallurgy of materials to fabricate plant equipment or pressure vessels is desirable
