Instructor/Assistant Professor, Gastroenterology Research Center - Internal Medicine, McGovern Medical School
The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth Houston) is a leading academic health center seeking applicants for a Non-Tenure Track Faculty position. The Instructor/Assistant Professor will work independently on murine and patient-derived samples to study the pathogenesis of GI diseases, including aging pathways and cancer, while performing various laboratory techniques and data analysis.

Responsibilities
Interpret and prepare results on omics data (circadian and microbiome-related)
Develop and maintain organoids from human and mice samples
Develop and maintain immune cells (i.e., macrophages, myofibroblasts, T cells)
Conduct in vitro growth of organoids, and immune cells, and perform and optimize co-culture experiments in transwell
Perform DNA extraction, gene expression (qPCR), and protein measurements (western blot, ELISA, and immunofluorescence)
Perform co-culture and optimize drug testing on cells and organoids
Be familiar with high-throughput knock-in and knock-out cell-based screening
Be familiar with live image monitoring based on luciferase and fluorescence signals
Work closely with bioinformatics platforms and scientists to generate outputs from circadian and microbiota data
Analyze data and generate figures using scientific computer software (SPSS, R, Prism) and share data with the group for feedback, as well as troubleshooting
Data visualization, interpretation, and paper drafting
Application to intra and extramural funding applications
Qualification
Required
Solid background in molecular biology
Hands-on experience in both in vitro and in vivo studies
Strong analytical skills
Strong interpersonal skills
Ability to identify project needs
Ability to coordinate the procurement of necessary equipment and supplies
Proficiency in Microsoft Office
Proficiency in scientific software such as R and GraphPad Prism
Proficiency in basic imaging tools, including Adobe Photoshop and ImageJ
Experience with database management
