Magnetics Design Engineer
West Coast Magnetics is focused on designing and developing custom magnetic components. They are seeking a Magnetics Design Engineer to create transformers, inductors, and filter elements while collaborating with customers on design requirements.
Responsibilities
Design new transformers, inductors, and magnetic filter elements that meet customer electrical, thermal, safety, and mechanical requirements
Review specifications of AC-DC and DC-DC circuits (buck-boost, flyback, half-bridge, full-bridge, PFC, LLC topologies)
Apply magnetic design equations to determine flux density, turns, core loss, inductance, wire resistance, temperature rise, and leakage inductance
Create complete design specifications, including datasheets, BOMs, and construction guidelines
Communicate with customers on technical design matters and provide timely updates
Supervise prototype and first article builds, ensuring accuracy and quality
Support production with testing and troubleshooting
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (required)
Minimum 2 years' experience designing high-frequency magnetic components (transformers, inductors, common mode chokes, current sensing components)
Familiarity with small signal testing of magnetic components (inductance, capacitance, DCR, hypot, turns ratio, phasing)
Ability to travel for customer meetings and trade shows
Preferred
Master's degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering
Experience with Ansys finite element software
Knowledge of network analyzer testing in MHz range
Experience with load testing of high-frequency magnetic components
Strong background in managing customer engineer relationships
