Youth Basketball Scorekeeper (part-time)

Mt. Prospect Park District is a community-focused organization providing recreational programs and facilities. They are seeking a part-time Youth Basketball Scorekeeper to supervise and manage the scorebook and clock during youth basketball games from December to March, ensuring a safe and organized environment for play.

Responsibilities

Arrive to assigned site 15 minutes before the first scheduled game time while wearing park district-issued staff shirt
Depending on the sport, there will be two-person crews working together. One person will keep the score in the scorebook and the other person will operate the clock and keep score on the scoreboard
Set up the scorer’s table and chairs, scorebook and the scoreboard. Set up spectators seating area and players’ area, depending location
Inspect the playing area and make sure it is safe for play
In order to be paid timely, employees must submit completed timesheets and result cards at the completion of the games and returned to the Athletic Department by the end of the next following business day
When games are done, scorekeepers are responsible for putting away the scoreboard and scorer’s table as well as cleaning up the bleachers and spectators’ seating areas and the gym, if applicable
Set-up and location of equipment will vary from site to site. The Athletic Staff will inform you of your site set-up when you are assigned a location. You may be required to work at more than one site during the season
Act as a liaison between Park District patrons and management
Attend necessary staff meetings
Follow all Park District rules and policies
Additional functions as assigned which may be considered essential
Responsible for all other duties as assigned by the Athletics Supervisor, Athletics Manager, Superintendent of Recreation, Director of Recreation, and/or the Executive Director. However, in an emergency, perform all other duties as required

Required

Must be at least 16 years of age
Must be able to work the scoreboard and keep score in the scorebook
Must be able to complete the required time sheets and the result cards and submit to Athletics in a timely manner
Must be able to communicate effectively with others to allow for the coordination of work, safety, and in emergency situations if needed
Must be able to demonstrate good judgment and common sense
Must be able to recognize unsafe conditions and emergencies and respond accordingly
Must be able to stand and/or sit for long periods of time
Must be able to stoop, bend and kneel as needed
Must be able to occasionally lift 50 pounds from a squat position
Must be reliable and able to work independently
Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of the Scorekeeper position
Must be able to abide by the guidelines and policies set by the Park District
It is very important that our scorekeepers conduct themselves in a professional manner at all times
They must display a positive attitude in regards to the park district, its employees and programs
Due to the needs of the Park District, evening and weekend hours may be required
