Manufacturing Engineering Internship - Winter/Spring 2026
PI (Physik Instrumente), LP is a leader in high precision positioning systems, and they are seeking a Manufacturing Engineering Intern for Winter/Spring 2026. The intern will work closely with manufacturing engineers to design fixtures, create engineering drawings, and support various manufacturing processes while gaining practical engineering experience.

Responsibilities
Design fixtures for use in assembly, metrology, and manufacturing to support new and existing products
Model and create engineering drawings in SolidWorks
Machine new fixtures and modify existing fixtures using manual equipment including, but not limited to milling machines, lathes, saws, and 3-D printers
Machine, modify, and 3-D print existing parts for use in production
Troubleshoot and provide general support/analysis for assembly, metrology, R&D, and manufacturing issues. Includes ECR/ECO and Defects/Quality issues
Optimize and improve processes for manufacturing/assembly
Create documentation such as assembly build procedures and in-process inspection
Upload documents to the company Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) system
Order and organize tooling, material, and other supplies for shop use
Qualification
Required
Must be currently enrolled in a full-time academic program from an accredited college or university, majoring in mechanical engineering or another related field
Legally authorized to work in the United States without needing sponsorship
Preferred
Basic understanding of manufacturing processes such as milling, turning, and surface grinding
Machine tool experience — CNC or manual machining
Basic understanding of mechanical systems
Experience using CAD software such as SolidWorks
Curiosity, creativity, problem solving skills — this is an opportunity to be learning new things every day
