Responsibilities

Ensures continuous supply of natural gas to customers by responding to transmission changes within the area of responsibility
Operates centrifugal compressors, reciprocating compressors, ancillary equipment including electrical generators, pumps, filters, valves, measurement devices, coolers, and fans to meet system and off-system supply needs efficiently and safely
Performs preventative and general maintenance on centrifugal compressors, reciprocating compressors, electronic and pneumatic equipment
Maintains, modifies, and troubleshoots Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), motor control systems, end devices, alarms, shutdown systems, lighting systems, variable frequency drives, air/fuel controllers and complex equipment associated with gas reciprocating engines, gas turbines and generators
Operates and monitors process control systems, vibration monitoring systems, fire and gas detection systems, station emergency shutdown systems and compressor control systems
Assists in data collection, documentation, maintaining records, and producing reports on work completed for Company, industry, and regulatory requirements
Performs facility maintenance and inspections by identifying and scheduling work, coordinating materials and supplies, performing maintenance and inspections, documenting work completion, and performing trend analysis to improve efficiency
Assists with installing conduit, instrumentation, and electrical components safely
Maintains a safe work environment and ensures safe work practices
Participates in major projects at all compressor locations
Plans, schedules, organizes, and coordinates contractors and employees
Oversees the completion of any US Department of Transportation (DOT) covered tasks for team members
Documents, maintains records, and produces reports on work completed for Company, industry, and regulatory requirements
Plans and implements training of other technicians
Assists in planning and preparation of capital and operational budget
Assume responsibility, prioritize, and respond to multiple tasks under potentially stressful or hazardous conditions
Analyze, monitor, and record various operating conditions such as pressures, temperature, hours of operations, fuel consumed, and water levels
Troubleshoot and repair electrical generators, switch gears, and control systems
Install and improve process control systems, compressor control systems, and fire and gas detection systems
Solicit and analyze vendor and contractor bids
Identify and correct unsafe or problem situations and report to supervision
Installs, programs, configures, troubleshoots, repairs, and performs data collection and analysis on automated compressor station equipment
Installs, troubleshoots, and maintains end devices, alarms, shutdown systems, process controls, substation and branch feeders, variable frequency drives, air/fuel controllers, and panel boards
Ensures accuracy of diagnostics, troubleshooting, inspections of all electrical, pneumatic, mechanical performance on engines, compressors, generators, and ancillary station equipment statewide
Verifies, supports, and inspects technical tasks performed by other technicians, trains technicians on various functions
Performs required Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Department of Transportation (DOT) and Company inspections, testing, and reporting to government agencies
Prepares analytical interpretation of all testing and performance data and develops predictive and preventative maintenance plans accordingly
Develops and implement supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) configurations to ensure gas control system requirements are met and manufacturer performance curves are not exceeded
Performs all meter and testing equipment calibrations; sizes all wiring and electrical distribution panels, electric motor testing; develops, programs, and maintains all variable frequency drives to ensure compliance with required electrical codes and policies
Responds to the various transmission system and compression changes within the area of responsibility to ensure a continuous supply of natural gas to customers
May plan, schedule, coordinate, and inspect work of contractors and techs in the absence of supervisor

Required

High School Diploma or equivalent from an accredited institution
3 years of experience in compressor operations, engine, generator, turbine mechanics or electronics troubleshooting and repair
Must possess a valid driver's license and meet the acceptable driving record requirements
Must hold and maintain all the following Operator Qualifications: Turbine Engine Repair; Centrifugal and Reciprocating Compressor Repair; Electric Compressor Operations; Generator Repair and Operations; Pressure Regulator Repair; ESD Fire Detection Systems Testing and Repair; Remote Monitoring; Monitor Parameters; Filter Operations; Reciprocating Compressor Repair; Manual Startup/Shutdown; Valve Operations Inspection and Repair; Gas Detection System Testing and Repair; Electric Driver Repair
Completion of the following courses: Waukesha Engine Maintenance; Ariel Compressor Maintenance; Electronics Troubleshooting
In-depth knowledge of industrial mechanics, electronics, electrical codes trades, and A/C voltage (120-480) three-phase and single-phase plus 24 VDC
Ability to establish and maintain an understanding of all job-specific test equipment and techniques, software programs for computer-based process control, vibration monitoring, compressor control systems, emissions control and monitoring systems, gas, and fire monitoring systems
Ability to write/read written safety procedures, work procedures, blueprints, work permits, and technical manuals
Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations, such as percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical solutions
In-depth knowledge of the Company's transmission systems and the guidelines and procedures associated with their operations
In-depth knowledge of gas turbine engines, gas reciprocating engine, and compressor repair
In-depth knowledge of gas theory and technical terminology of the natural gas industry
In-depth understanding of regulatory requirements and documentation
Knowledge of the operation and maintenance requirements of reciprocating and centrifugal natural gas compressors and ancillary equipment
Knowledge of material evaluation, acquisition, and handling
Knowledge of the capital budget process
Ability to plan, schedule, and coordinate employee and contractor work to efficiently complete equipment repair, replacement, installation, and removal
Ability to effectively handle emergencies
Ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing, with other individuals, teams, customers, and stakeholders of the business at various organizational levels in a business-like and professional manner
Ability to use a personal computer and Microsoft Office suite
5 years of experience in compressor operations, engine, generator, turbine mechanics or electronics troubleshooting and repair
Expert knowledge and understanding of uniform mechanical, plumbing, OSHA and DOT codes, and regulations
Expert knowledge of tuning and calibrating electronic, pneumatic, and SCADA controls and equipment
In-depth knowledge of pipeline facility equipment
Thorough knowledge of electrical codes and AC voltage (120-480) three-phase and single-phase plus 24-volt dc
Thorough understanding of lock-out/tag-out procedures
Understanding of process logic control, telecommunication equipment, and the host computer system
Ability to program complicated control scenarios and their relationships to improve compressor performance
Ability to work independently and as part of a group
Ability to analyze, monitor, and record various operating conditions such as pressures, temperature, hours of operations, fuel consumed, and water levels
Knowledge of Wonderware and Allen Bradley Control Systems (PLC)
