Responsibilities

Walk track daily to evaluate track conditions
Run the train through two cycles prior to opening to the public.  Listen for unusual noise and see that the track is level and the train is operating normally
Ensure signals are working properly
Conduct daily preventative maintenance check each day of operation and file appropriately
Operate scheduled train rides as required
Ensure proper train operations and safety of passengers and pedestrians
Ensure proper start up and shut down procedures
Walk track daily to evaluate track conditions
Upon arrival at depot, display “Tickets Now on Sale” sign
Monitor the guests while they are in the depot loading area.  Make sure they are not climbing the rails, etc
After sale of tickets and at scheduled departure time disconnect train safety chains to seats and allow passengers to load.   After loading secure chain
Assist if needed, any special needs passenger
After all passengers are loaded and seated, get positioned in the caboose observation seat and notify the engineer when it is clear to depart
During the ride make periodic announcements of train ride rules and local information
Ensure the safety of passengers.  If a passenger is disruptive the conductor is responsible to order removal from train
Conduct daily safety check sheet and file appropriately.  Information is to include communications system, public address system, fire extinguishers, cleanliness of cars, cleanliness of depot area, walking track for debris, conditions, etc., and share observations with engineer
Returning cash box, daily attendance sheets with completed deposit slips to the Public Works office at the end of the shift
Responsible for ticket, t-shirt money and daily deposits

Required

Must possess a valid driver's license
Knowledge of emergency procedures
Knowledge of personal and public safety
Knowledge of correct air brake operations
Knowledge of basic mechanical operations
Ability to implement activities and events
Ability to respond to requests and inquiries from the general public
Ability to maintain a safe and clean environment in and around depot and train
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
Ability to interpret and apply policies, procedures, laws and regulations
Ability to demonstrate correct radio operating procedures
Ability to demonstrate correct reporting procedures of train breakdown
Ability to demonstrate correct operating procedures for daily operations, including correct loading and unloading of passengers
Ability to demonstrate correct operation of handicapped ramp
Ability to demonstrate correct start up, normal operation and shift end procedures
Experience: No experience necessary
Physical demands: Regularly required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear
Physical demands: Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls
Physical demands: Regularly required to climb or balance
