Responsibilities

Own mechanical engineering work packages for the production site including design and development, with a heavy focus on elevators, overhead cranes, larger overhead doors, and other large mechanisms
Design elements of multidisciplinary, multistory projects for new construction including all phases of project development, from conceptual feasibility studies, preliminary design through construction completion
Perform standard and complex engineering analyses, designs and calculations using standard methodology and principles and other viable approaches
Create mechanism design drawings, calculations, and design summary presentations
Estimate material quantities, schedules, and costs for construction projects
Write and manage construction contracts with subcontractors across multiple disciplines
Perform project control tasks, including project scheduling, budgeting, and cost control
Manage multi-discipline design and construction projects, including coordination of typical systems found in high rise buildings (structural, MEP, etc)
Interact with other engineers, contractors, fabricators, and various stakeholders
Provide direct onsite field observations and resolve field conflicts in real time
Direct all field personnel to achieve completion of the project on schedule, within budget, with quality workmanship that conforms to the original plans and specifications
Maintain the construction schedule, identify and solve problems
Maintain a positive relationship with the SpaceX end user, contractors, suppliers, and other Space X employees
Engage with new vendors to shore up our pool of contractors that have the ability to execute high rise projects
Prepare schedules and supervises completion of the final punch list
Promote job site safety as a top priority, encourage safe work practices and rectify job site hazards immediately
Ensure all company employees and contractors are adhering to the company safety policy
Interact with tradesman, contractors, and building officials to coordinate and execute maintenance repair and installation of facilities support equipment
Communicate updates to budgetary, drawings, and design requirements to management and engineering
Work closely with vendors and design team to ensure solutions meet the requirements for tower design as well as the manufacturing processes
Execute design for manufacturability changes to enhance production efficiency

Required

Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or other engineering discipline
1+ years of hands-on experience with mechanical systems (internship and project experience applies)
Flight hardware typically is built in tight quarters and physical dexterity is required
Ability to work at elevated heights up to 500 feet
Ability to pass Air Force background check for Cape Canaveral
Ability to perform job duties that require standing, kneeling, crouching, twisting upper body, working in cramped positions in small openings and climbing hand over hand
Typically exposed to work in extreme outdoor environments – heat, cold, rain
Work performed in an environment requiring exposure to fumes, odors, and noise
Schedule varies depending on site operational needs; flexibility required
Flexibility to travel to other SpaceX sites (less than 25%)
To conform to U.S. Government export regulations, applicant must be a (i) U.S. citizen or national, (ii) U.S. lawful, permanent resident (aka green card holder), (iii) Refugee under 8 U.S.C. § 1157, or (iv) Asylee under 8 U.S.C. § 1158, or be eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State

Preferred

2+ years of construction or manufacturing design experience
2+ years of professional experience in the field of aerospace/mechanical engineering
Experience with fluid dynamics, finite element, or related computer-based modeling
Experience with large construction (civil, naval, or mechanical)
Experience leading operation-critical part mechanical design, including basic structures calculations and design considerations
Experience with finite element analysis (FEA) software packages
Experience with Unigraphics NX and Teamcenter CAD and product lifecycle management (PLM) systems
Detailed knowledge of Siemens NC or similar CAD and PLM packages
Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
