Engineer I/II Civil/Site Development
SGM is the largest civil engineering firm based in the Western Slope of Colorado, seeking a full-time Civil Engineer I or II in Grand Junction. The role involves executing technical engineering tasks, contributing to deliverables, and performing field work while collaborating within a supportive team environment.

Responsibilities
Execute well-defined technical and engineering tasks
Contribute to development of deliverables
Perform field work and CAD drafting, sometimes in significant amounts
Conduct field activities, including full-time construction inspections and part-time inspections
Actively participate in team endeavors and SGM initiatives and committees as requested
Proactively communicate with supervisor on professional development desires & needs
Help secure repeat clients through project performance and professional persona
Help secure new business by recognizing and communicating with supervisor about business opportunities through clients, projects, etc
Performs other related duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
B.S. in Civil Engineering or related field
EI Certification or ability to obtain in the first year of employment
Organized, fast learner, and interested in the details
Executes well-defined technical and engineering tasks
Strong familiarity and working knowledge in the use of AutoCAD Civil 3D or similar design software with interest in expanding CAD knowledge base
Experience in surface water hydrology and hydraulic analysis and design
Self-review of work and understanding of review by fellow engineers
Produce deliverables such as plans, specifications, memorandums or reports
Enjoy working with a small, focused team
Strong written and oral communication skills via emails, phone and in-person
Excellent client service skills for design meetings, coordination with other consultants and the client
Ability to coordinate and schedule other subtasks
Valid Driver License
Able to conduct site visits on specific inspection tasks such as erosion control
Strong desire to live, work and play in Western Colorado
Preferred
Willingness to represent SGM positively in the industry and local community
Desire to provide industry-leading engineering services and become an integral part of the overall SGM team
Surveying experience
GPS/GIS experience
Septic System (OWTS) design certification
Construction project administration and oversight experience
Master's degree in civil engineering or related field
Municipal engineering experience
An active member of relevant professional organizations
Demonstrated initiative and participation in community involvement and outreach
Software experience/proficiency in Hydrologic and Hydraulic modeling software (HEC-RAS 2D, HEC-HMS, InfoDrainage, FLO-2D, or similar)
Software experience/proficiency in MS Office software such as Word and Excel
