VCU Health is seeking a Sr. Sterile Processing Tech to oversee departmental operations in the absence of the Central Sterile Supervisor. This role involves training new employees and acting as a technical resource on processing and sterilization of medical supplies and equipment.

Responsibilities

This position is responsible for departmental oversight in the absence of the Central Sterile Supervisor
This job orients and trains new employees
This job also acts as the technical resource on processing and sterilization
This position ensures reusable medical/surgical supplies and equipment are cleaned and decontaminated by means of cleaning processes and chemical disinfection and packaged and sterilized using sterilization guidelines to meet the needs of all clinical and surgical units
Follows OSHA and JCAHO guidelines
Oversees department in the absence of supervisor
Orients and trains new employees

Required

Certification as a Registered Central Sterilization Technician (CRCST) or Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) or Surgical Tech certification (CST or TS-C or CORT)
Current CRCST, CSPDT, CST, TS-C or CORST certification
Minimum of two (2) years of central sterile experience to include: The principles of sterilization, infectious disease transmission, infection control and all other aspects of steam sterilization (including decontamination, inspection and packaging of items to be sterilized, sterilizing procedures, equipment operation and safety precautions)
Worker safety as it relates to medical device processing and sterilization
High School Graduate or equivalent
Follows OSHA and JCAHO guidelines
Job duties may include the access to and/or contact with medications and related supplies
Oversees department in the absence of supervisor
Orients and trains new employees
Physical: Lifting 50-100 lbs
Activities: Prolonged standing, Frequent bending, Walking (distance), Climbing (steps, ladder, other), Reaching (overhead, extensive, repetitive) Repetitive motion
Mental/Sensory: Reasoning, Problem solving, Hearing, Speak clearly, Write legibly, Reading
Emotional: Steady pace, Frequent and intense customer interactions, Noisy environment, Able to adapt to frequent change

Preferred

Previous experience operating specific steam sterilizing system used by the health care facility
Completion of the International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management (IAHCSMM) curriculum
