Montgomery County Public Schools is seeking a Special Education Teacher for Silver Spring International Middle School. The role involves providing direct instruction and support to students with disabilities, collaborating with general education teachers, and developing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). The teacher will also be required to attend meetings and support behavioral interventions.

Education

Responsibilities

Provides direct instruction and instructional support to students with disabilities

Works in collaboration with the general education teacher

Monitors and evaluates outcomes for students with disabilities

Assists in the development of Individualized Education Programs (IEP)

Required to attend school meetings, programs, and activities outside the instructional day as mandated by the Montgomery County Education Association agreement

Support behavioral interventions for students with disabilities

Required

Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in special education

Fluent in learning theory, differentiated instruction, developmental reading, child development, applied behavior analysis, and assessment required

Student teaching in the specific area of exceptionality or two years teaching experience at level appropriate to assignment (elementary or secondary)

Meets Maryland State Department of Education certification requirements for Standard Professional Certification I (SPC I) in special education

Knowledge of the Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) curriculum for the grade/content range of the position, MCPS special education program

Thorough knowledge of IEP, learning theory, differentiated instruction, data collection, best instructional practices, research-based reading instruction, multicultural education, assessments

Thorough knowledge in methods of teaching elementary math if seeking an elementary position

Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA 2015), Individuals with Disabilities Act (IDEA 2004), and state and federal policies and procedures related to special education

Ability to provide instructional support

Works well with students with disabilities, teachers, and parents/guardians of students with disabilities

Ability to appropriately adapt instructional programs and materials

Excellent communication skills

Knowledge of and the ability to apply the six performance standards established for the Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) Teacher Professional Growth System (TPGS)
