Responsibilities
Provide technical guidance to design and engineering teams on Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Assembly (DFA), and Test (DFT) best practices
Partner with product design, engineering, and metrology to ensure designs align with MIL-STD-810G environmental test requirements (vibration, temperature, shock, etc.)
Contribute to active product development programs by refining designs, evaluating assembly and manufacturing methods, and supporting vendor/partner selection
Collaborate with commercial and design teams to identify and evaluate new market opportunities , providing mechanical feasibility and risk assessments
Act as a subject matter expert and mentor to junior engineers, leading knowledge-sharing sessions on ruggedized optical systems and field-proven mechanical practices
Drive cross-functional integration to ensure product performance, manufacturability, and reliability are aligned throughout the product lifecycle
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Opto-Mechanical Engineering, or related field
8+ years of relevant industry experience in optical or opto-mechanical product design, ideally with fire control and/or night vision systems
Demonstrated expertise in assembly and test methods for ruggedized optical systems, including MIL-STD-810G environmental testing
Proven success implementing DFM, DFA, and DFT practices in cross-functional product teams
Strong CAD skills (SolidWorks, Creo, or equivalent) and experience with tolerance analysis and design documentation
Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate across product design, engineering, manufacturing, and testing functions
US Citizen
Preferred
Experience with military or defense-related optical product development
Direct involvement in product launches, from design through assembly and field testing
Familiarity with supplier management and outsourcing strategies for manufacturing or assembly
Track record of mentoring or leading junior engineers in a fast-paced R&D or product development environment
