Associate Attorney Houston

Responsibilities

Maintain 35 billable hours per
Timely complete tasks as assigned by your supervising attorney. These typically involve:
Researching legal issues
Drafting various pleadings
Drafting various motions
Ensuring that all statutory deadlines are properly complied with
Attending and participate in hearings, mediations, and/or arbitrations as needed
Assisting with other tasks as assigned by your supervising attorney
Stay informed on client matters and assist your supervising attorney in maintaining client communications and relationships
Promptly respond to client communications. (Typically, within 24 hours)
Prepare for Strategy Meetings with your supervising attorney as scheduled. During these meetings you will be expected to know, generally:
The facts of the case
Where the case is procedurally
Any upcoming hearings or deadlines, which must also be calendared in Clio
Is there a docket control order?
When is the case set for trial?
Is the case set for bench or jury trial?
Be prepared to discuss the strengths and weaknesses of the case, the facts, and where you think we should be focusing our efforts to efficiently litigate the matter
Continually evaluate cases to ensure that we are putting the client in the best position to reach their goal in hiring us
Maintains knowledge of legal developments including completion of continuing legal

Required

Excellent written and verbal communication
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
Strong research, analytical, and critical thinking skills
Ability to prioritize tasks and delegate them when necessary
Ability to function well in a fast-paced environment
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
Bachelor's degree
Juris Doctor or equivalent from an accredited law school
Active license to practice law and/or membership in the State Bar of Texas
3 - 7 years of experience
Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
Must be able to lift 15 pounds
