Intern - Materials and Surfacing Engineering (Summer)
The State of South Dakota is seeking interns for the Materials and Surfacing Engineering department within the Department of Transportation. The intern will work in the Central Materials lab, performing tests on highway construction materials and conducting analyses to ensure compliance with design criteria.

Responsibilities
Perform tests on highway construction materials used on SDDOT Projects
Conduct and verify that hot mix asphalt and/or portland cement concrete mix designs meet the design criteria
Collect ground penetrating radar (GPR) data, analyze results, and generate reports for steel placement in portland cement concrete pavements
Limited travel throughout South Dakota for construction project inspections and highway construction materials testing
Qualification
Required
Applicant must be a current part-time or full-time student (minimum of 6 credit hours) in upcoming semester or in the immediately preceding semester
The student should have completed one year (nine months) of their chosen program by the start of the internship
Preferred
Preference may be given to applicants with a standing of junior/senior
Preference may be given to South Dakota residents
Preference may be given to students of South Dakota institutions
