Responsibilities

Teaching assignments will include undergraduate, occasional graduate courses, and possibly some student advising
Create and oversee a Public History internships program requiring outreach and close partnerships with local museums, libraries, archives, and historical societies
Chair the board of the Sourisseau Academy for State and Local History
Faculty are expected to maintain an active scholarly agenda and the successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the advancement of the discipline, through peer-reviewed scholarship and professional activities
The candidate will participate in shared governance, usually in department, college, and university committees and other service assignments
The candidate must demonstrate awareness and experience understanding the needs of a student population of great diversity – in age, abilities, cultural background, ethnicity, religion, economic background, primary language, sexual orientation, gender identity, and academic preparation – through inclusive course materials, teaching strategies and advisement

Required

Ph.D. in History is required
Research specialty in Public History with a preferred emphasis on the modern History of Science and Technology
Demonstrated record of successful teaching in diverse classrooms
Demonstration of research potential and an established agenda for future research
Applicants must demonstrate an awareness of and sensitivity to the educational goals of a socially and economically diverse student population as might have been gained in cross-cultural study, training, teaching, and other comparable experience

Preferred

Strong record of teaching excellence, teaching experience, and a record of service
Record of successful collaboration with community-based organizations
Demonstrated commitment to or experience in acquiring external funds
Experience or interest in developing curriculum related to public history and history of technology
