Senior Systems Architect, Advisor

Responsibilities
Architectural Leadership: Define, design, and validate architectures for complex, large-scale FAA automation systems, ensuring alignment with enterprise goals, performance needs, and regulatory requirements
Integration and Modernization: Develop strategies to integrate new technologies and capabilities into existing FAA infrastructures, supporting mission-critical functions such as collection, analysis, production, and dissemination of air traffic data
Mission Continuity: Safeguard the reliability, availability, and scalability of automation systems that directly impact the National Airspace System
Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with FAA leadership, engineering teams, and contractors to align architectural approaches with program objectives, stakeholder needs, and industry best practices
Technical Analysis: Conduct cost-benefit analyses and trade studies to determine optimal solutions, leveraging commercial off-the-shelf products, reusable components, and custom designs as needed
Interoperability and Standards Compliance: Ensure architectures comply with FAA enterprise technical frameworks, security standards, and interoperability requirements across systems and domains
Innovation and Strategy: Identify emerging technologies, evaluate their potential, and recommend strategies for adoption to strengthen the FAA's long-term automation capabilities
Mentorship and Knowledge Transfer: Provide technical guidance, mentoring, and oversight to engineering teams to ensure architectural consistency and high-quality design outcomes
Executive Communication: Deliver clear and persuasive insights on architecture tradeoffs, risks, and recommendations to FAA stakeholders and executive leadership
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, or a related field, with a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
Extensive background supporting FAA programs, with in-depth knowledge of NAS Automation architectures such as ERAMS, STARS, ATOP, MEARTS, and/or TFMS
Demonstrated expertise in designing, evaluating, and integrating large-scale automation system architectures for mission-critical environments
Proven ability to lead architecture development across multiple domains, balancing performance, security, scalability, and interoperability
Strong track record of collaboration with FAA stakeholders, contractors, and engineering teams to align architectural solutions with program and mission objectives
Ability to interpret complex technical requirements and translate them into practical, reliable, and future-ready solutions that ensure the integrity and modernization of FAA automation systems
U.S. citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance
