Assistant Commonwealth Attorney II

The Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney II will be responsible for prosecuting criminal cases, preparing legal documents, managing a caseload, and coordinating with various stakeholders in the legal process.

Responsibilities
Preparing charging documents
Reviewing evidentiary documents
Issuing subpoenas
Interviewing and preparing witnesses
Performing legal research
Responding to pre-trial and post-trial motions
Conducting trial strategy
Coordinating with victim-witness case manager
Representing the Commonwealth in adjudications/trials, sentencing hearings, probation violation hearings, show cause hearings, etc
Managing a misdemeanor and felony caseload
Evaluating and screening cases for disposal in District Court or indictment in Circuit Court
Qualification
Required
Requires a Juris Doctor Degree (JD) from an accredited law school
Two (2) years of related work experience as a licensed practicing attorney
Licensed member of the Virginia State Bar
Must be licensed to practice law in Virginia
Must be a member in good standing with the Virginia State Bar (ability to obtain a waiver of admission within a reasonable time is also acceptable, but should not exceed four (4) months)
Continue legal education annually
Successful candidates will undergo background checks as required
