Clinical Lab Technologist

Columbia University Irving Medical Center is seeking a Clinical Lab Technologist to work in the Neuromuscular Pathology Laboratory. The role involves specimen processing, technical troubleshooting, and administrative responsibilities related to laboratory operations.

Responsibilities

75% - Specimen processing, freezing, embedding. Perform micro sectioning of frozen and paraffin blocks. Perform manual routine, special, IHC, IF stains and tease nerve fibers. Prepare chemical solutions and reagents. Specimen pick-up
10% - Demonstrate independent technical judgement and willingness to work as a team player. Effectively resolve technical issues related to the histology laboratory
5% - Analyze, resolve and troubleshoot various day-to-day laboratory tasks as needed. Assist in setting up, evaluating and troubleshooting new techniques. Effective troubleshooting and maintenance of laboratory equipment, which includes cryostats and ultramicrotome. Successfully carrying out and maintaining QA/QC procedures as per policy and procedures. Maintain statistical records and other related records pertaining to the laboratory
5% - Administrative Responsibilities- Answering phone lines. Sending out and compiling reports. Accession specimens

Required

A Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or related health science field; or equivalent in work experience and education
Must hold one of the following licenses: Clinical Laboratory Technologists, Clinical Laboratory Technicians, or Certified Histological Technicians
Capable of micro-sectioning at 4 to 5
Must be able to successfully complete systems training requirements

Preferred

HT/HTL (ASCP) registered or registration eligible
Experience with Special Stains, IHC, IF, Ultra-microtomy, Electron Microscopy (EM) tissue preparation
