Responsibilities

Propose and lead independent research projects in quantum algorithm development and scalable approaches to quantum error characterization and protection
Work collaboratively with other APL staff to identify emerging challenges with quantum solutions
Support ongoing programs in quantum information science by making immediate contributions to efforts modelling physically motivated quantum systems, and developing relevant characterization, control, and error correction strategies

Required

Have a PhD in Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a closely related field
Experience with programming and software development
Have research, accomplishments, and publications in the field of quantum information science
Have excellent written and verbal communication skills
Are willing to occasionally travel to sponsor sites, conferences and workshops
Are able to obtain an Interim Secret level security clearance by your start date and can ultimately obtain Are able to obtain a TS/SCI w/ Polygraph security clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and need to meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship

Preferred

Have experience with developing and/or assessing quantum error correction strategies
Knowledge and experience with implementing quantum noise characterization and control techniques
Have high-performance-computing experience
Have a record of significant contributions on collaborative projects pursuing highly sophisticated objectives
Have experience working closely with experimentalists
Have an active TS/SCI w/ Polygraph security clearance
