Intern - Blue Dog Hatchery (Summer)
The State of South Dakota is offering a summer internship opportunity at the Blue Dog Fish Hatchery. Interns will participate in various hatchery operations including fish culture activities, data collection for research projects, and maintenance tasks.

Responsibilities
Will be involved in all aspects of hatchery operations, including fish culture activities such as feeding, fish inventories, and rearing unit cleanings
Start off assisting with overwinter intensive cold water production (i.e., trout and salmon) and in the spring will shift to walleye spawning and extensive culture in rearing ponds
Stock fish into public fish waters, and perform building, grounds, and equipment maintenance
Required to work both indoors and outdoors, which will involve wearing waders, working in inclement weather, and lifting up to 50 lbs
Play a key role in numerous hatchery research projects, primarily by collecting data and conducting literature reviews, but also by assisting with data analysis and manuscript preparation
May also be assigned lead responsibilities on a specific research project if desired
Qualification
Required
APPLICANT MUST BE A CURRENT PART-TIME OR FULL-TIME STUDENT (MINIMUM OF 6 CREDIT HOURS) IN UPCOMING SEMESTER OR IN THE IMMEDIATELY PRECEDING SEMESTER
Applicant must be enrolled as a part-time/full-time student at a college, university, or technical institute at the time they apply
By the start of the internship, the student should have completed one year (nine months) of their chosen program
Preferred
Preference may be given to applicants with a standing of junior/senior
Preference may be given to South Dakota residents
Preference may be given to students of South Dakota institutions
Preference will be given to those pursuing a degree in a biology related field, but is not required
