The Social Work or Professional Counselor Intern will provide vital mental health and substance abuse treatment services to incarcerated individuals, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to ensure effective care.
Responsibilities
Provide mental health support, risk assessments, individual and group mental health and substance abuse treatment services, psychiatric screening, crisis intervention, and case management services to incarcerated individuals at the Adult Detention Center (ADC), the Juvenile Detention Center (JDC), as well as the Youth Shelter
Work with a multidisciplinary team and maintain ongoing communication with correctional and medical staff to ensure safety and continuity of care
Maintain all clinical records and documentation according to federal, state, and agency policies and procedures
Qualification
Required
Eligibility for the program is open to Mental Health Counseling students completing a Practicum/Internship and MSW 2nd year students
Must be fitted for N-95 (or similar) mask to safely provide on-site services as needed
Placement is contingent upon successfully passing pre-employment background check to include fingerprinting, credit, NCIC, DMV and TB test
Must have a good driving record and a valid driver's license in Virginia or regional state of residence
