Sr. Cell Electrochemical Modeling Engineer
Tesla is a leading company in electric vehicles and energy products, and they are seeking a Sr. Cell Electrochemical Modeling Engineer to develop and maintain electrochemical physics-based models of lithium-ion cells. The role involves optimizing model parameters, collaborating with experimental groups, and contributing to cross-functional product development teams.

Responsibilities
Optimize model parameters to best predict empirical battery data
Write test plans, propose design of experiments, and summarize results in test reports
Use data manipulation and visualization skills to convey model and test results to fellow engineers
Follow up on inquiries and disseminate bleeding-edge results traceably and reproducibly
Be a member of a cross functional product development team to help determine the ideal cell chemistry and design for electric vehicle and energy product applications
Effectively interact with other engineers in cross functional teams
Translate aging mechanisms into mathematical representations that can be accommodated by existing models
Document and communicate model workflow, implementations, and results of simulation studies
Qualification
Required
Degree in Material Science, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience
3+ years of experience in electrochemical system modeling or general transport-reaction processes
Deep understanding of the relationship between physical parameters of a given cell design to the inputs and output behaviors of the mathematical model
Knowledge of state-of-the-art modeling techniques used for lithium-ion electrode chemistries
Experience numerically solving PDEs and ODEs
Programming and data visualization (e.g. Python or MATLAB) skills
Knowledge of the degradation mechanisms causing energy loss and power fade in lithium-ion batteries
Preferred
Experience in lithium-ion modeling
Familiarity with MySQL
