Senior Materials Scientist

Responsibilities

Support the definition and planning of technology development programs aligned with our Technology Roadmap
Develop material and process solutions to support manufacturing/customer needs
Design, organize and carry out material development, production and processing trials at laboratory, pilot and production scales
Assess, analyze and interpret development results, adapting and iterating project activities to achieve the desired outcomes within an optimized timescale
Understand and apply statistical process control
Supervise engineer’s and/or technician’s work
Interface with operations, sales and technology teams to ensure seamless execution in meeting goals
Interact with suppliers and customers when necessary
Write a technical report at the end of each project, with regular updates during development
Assist in specifying and selecting equipment and material purchases related to ceramics processing
Support and enhance the company’s commitment to the highest standards of Health and Safety and ensure all policies are adhered to during the work day

Required

PhD in Ceramics, Material Science or related field with a minimum of 5 years experience
Experience in the manufacturing of ceramic components. Experience with silica is a plus
The ability to work as part of a team and contribute to the progress of the company
Individual must be a Citizen of the United States or Permanent resident alien of the United States
Must be authorized to permanently work in the United States
Knowledge in material testing and micro-structure analysis
Good working knowledge of statistics
Excellent report writing and communication skills
The ability to communicate with customers and all personnel is essential
Ability to work independently and under pressure with minimal supervision
Limited travel, including international travel, may be required
Ability to work in an interdisciplinary, multicultural team

Preferred

Experience with Design of Experiments / 6 Sigma training preferred
Experience with injection molding is a plus
