QUALITY ENGINEER - METALS MACHINING

Responsibilities

Develop and optimize measurement methods using CMM, surface finish testers, and other precision instruments
Ensure gaging conforms to ANSI/ASME Y14.5 GD&T
Develop FMEAs, control plans, PPAP documentation, and process flow diagrams for new and existing products
Support APQP activities to ensure robust process controls from prototype through production
Ensure compliance with AS9100D, ISO 9001, and customer-specific requirements
Prepare for and support internal, customer, and third-party audits
Use root cause analysis (8D, 5-Why, Ishikawa) to resolve quality issues and drive corrective/preventive actions
Partner with production and engineering to implement process controls that reduce variation and improve capability (Cp/Cpk)
Communicate with customers regarding quality issues, corrective actions, and quality plans
Support supplier quality initiatives, including supplier audits and incoming inspection improvements

Required

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
3–5+ years of quality engineering experience in precision machining, aerospace, or defense manufacturing
Proficiency in FMEA, control plans, APQP, and PPAP documentation
Strong metrology skills and experience with CMM programming (PC-DMIS or equivalent)
Solid understanding of GD&T per ASME Y14.5
Working knowledge of AS9100D requirements and aerospace industry quality standards
Experience with statistical process control (SPC) and capability studies
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
Provides the technique and guidance for selecting and implementing the appropriate measuring tools for machined parts
Demonstrated ability to lead problem-solving with structured methods like 8D

Preferred

Six Sigma Green Belt or similar certification
Experience with Minitab or similar statistical analysis software
Familiarity with special processes (e.g., NADCAP plating, heat treat, coatings)
ERP/MES quality module experience, preferably Made2Manage
