Safety Coordinator-Federal Safety Plan Documentation Specialist

Cannon Construction is seeking a Safety Coordinator to join their federal projects team, responsible for creating and finalizing federal safety documentation. The role involves ensuring compliance with safety requirements and collaborating with project managers to develop polished safety submissions.

Responsibilities

Complete project-specific safety plans using Cannon's templates (APP, SSSP, AHAs, Fall Protection Plans, Lift Plans, and other required safety documents)
Research and apply federal safety requirements (EM 385-1-1, NAVFAC, USACE, OSHA) to ensure compliance
Incorporate project scope details provided by PMs/Directors, tailoring plans to the unique hazards and requirements of each project
Proofread, format, and finalize documents in Microsoft Word to ensure accuracy, consistency, and professional presentation
Maintain revision logs, version control, and tracking systems for all safety documents
Act as the central point for safety documentation compliance
Review each plan against compliance checklists to confirm all requirements are met
Coordinate with internal stakeholders to resolve gaps or missing details before submission
Support audits and client reviews of safety plans
Partner with PMs and Directors to gather scope information and integrate project-specific details into safety plans
Provide guidance on document requirements, formatting standards, and compliance expectations
Assist with training field staff on safety documentation where required

Required

Strong critical thinking and logic skills - able to understand requirements and apply them consistently
Creative writing and editing skills to clearly explain safety concepts in professional documents
Ability to conduct research on plan requirements using federal safety standards and client specifications
Attention to detail - skilled at proofreading, formatting, and ensuring documents are polished and professional
Proficiency in Microsoft Word (formatting, styles, tables, TOCs, and revision tracking)
Strong organizational and communication skills to coordinate with PMs/Directors and manage multiple plans at once
Experience using AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT) to support research, drafting, and refinement of safety plan content

Preferred

Familiarity with construction, utility, or telecom projects (helpful but not required)
Basic understanding of OSHA or safety practices (can be learned on the job)
