Responsibilities
Greet and prepare patients for dental procedures
Ensure patients are comfortable and provide support during treatments
Explain dental procedures and post-treatment care to patients
Obtain and update patient dental records
Assist dentists during a variety of treatment procedures
Hand instruments and materials to dentists and keep patients’ mouths dry using suction or other devices
Prepare and sterilize dental instruments and equipment
Take and develop dental radiographs (X-rays) as needed
Mix dental materials and prepare treatment trays
Pour, trim, and polish dental impressions
Fabricate temporary crowns or bridges
Take impressions for study casts
Perform laboratory procedures under the direction of the dentist
Schedule patient appointments and manage the dental office calendar
Maintain patient records and update treatment notes
Manage inventory and order dental supplies as necessary
Handle billing and payment processes, if required
Follow infection control protocols and maintain a clean and organized treatment area
Adhere to all health and safety regulations and guidelines, including OSHA standards
Properly dispose of biohazard materials and follow waste disposal procedures
Stay updated with the latest developments in dental practices and procedures through continuing education
Participate in training sessions and staff meetings
Qualification
Required
High school diploma or equivalent
Certification as a Dental Assistant (CDA) or Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) may be required based on state regulations
Proficiency in chairside assisting and dental procedures
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Strong organizational and multitasking abilities
Attention to detail and accuracy
Familiarity with dental software and electronic health records (EHR) systems
Ability to perform tasks that involve prolonged standing, bending, and reaching
Manual dexterity and precision to handle dental instruments and equipment
Capacity to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks
Preferred
Completion of an accredited dental assisting program is preferred
Previous experience as a dental assistant is preferred but not mandatory for entry-level positions
